Installation

The syncdat client and servedat server executables can be used immediately, without installation, by following the instructions in the Quick Start chapter.  To install the applications for long-term use, run the included installation scripts.

The servedat and syncdat applications may ask you to provide a license code during installation.

Only one instance of servedat may be running at a time.  If you are trying run servedat manually and receive an error that the UDP port is already in use, check whether you have already installed servedat or have it open in another terminal.

On most systems, administrative privileges will be required to run the installation scripts.  You may be prompted to enter your password.  If you do not have administrative privileges, you can still run the software from the command line.

If you have previously installed SyncDat, either as a trial or a purchased version, please refer to Tech Note 0012 for tips on trouble-free updating.

When installing servedat, any running instances will be terminated prior to installation of the new instance.

For a step-by-step walk-through of setting up user accounts, including how to modify and install server configuration files, see the Adding Users section.
