Configuring Windows 7 Firewall
When you run MTP software under Windows 7, the system may ask whether the program should be allowed access to the network. You should select "Allow access", plus the following additional steps.
To ensure full network performance and access, especially for a server, you must open the UDP port for your MTP application.
The servedat server included in ExpeDat 1.12, SyncDat 1.1, and later versions, will check your firewall settings for common problems and, if it is being Run as Administrator, it will automatically attempt to fix them. It is still recommended that you follow the steps below to verify the settings. See the ExpeDat documentation for more information specific to servedat.
For general information about configuring firewalls for use with MTP applications, see Configuring Firewalls. Specific instructions for Windows 7 are shown below.
| 1. |
From the Start menu, open the Control Panel window.
| 2. |
In the standard control panel window, click on the "System and Security" heading.
| 3. |
In the "System and Security" panel, click on the "Windows Firewall" heading.
| 4. |
In the left margin of the "Windows Firewall" panel, click on the "Advanced Settings" link.
| 5. |
Click "Inbound Rules", then right click on "Inbound Rules" and select "New Rule...".
| 6. |
Choose the "Port" rule type, then click the "Next" button.
| 7. |
Choose to apply the rule to "UDP" and the specific port 8080 (for ExpeDat) or 8082 (for MTP-Utilities), then click the "Next" button.
| 8. |
Choose "Allow the connection" action, then click the "Next" button.
| 9. |
Check to apply this rule in all locations, then click the "Next" button.
| 10. |
Next, enter the name of your MTP application (such as "ExpeDat") and click "Finish".
| 11. |
To complete the Windows 7 Firewall configuration, you must now return to the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" window (step 5) and repeat the last six steps for "Outbound Rules".
If you (or the server administrator) changes the server port number, it will be necessary to repeat these steps for the new number.
