Overview
The MTP®/IP utilities are a collection of small applications which can be useful in maintaining, testing, and diagnosing both MTP applications and general IP network issues. These utilities are provided for the convenience of DEI’s customers and to assist with Technical Support Requests (TSRs).
There are currently five utilities distributed with this package:
| MTPtestGUI | A graphical test suite for Windows and MacOS X. |
| mtptest | Automatically runs a series of tests and reports on the status of your network, comparing TCP and MTP performance characteristics. |
| mtping | Tests connectivity between a workstation and an MTP/IP application by querying for the application’s ID string. Similar in function to the “ping”. |
| lserve | A test server capable of accepting both TCP/IP and MTP/IP transactions and returning arbitrary amounts of random data. |
| lclient | A test client which measures network performance while downloading arbitrary amounts of random data from lserve using either TCP or MTP. |
As with all network software, you must ensure that any firewalls, VPNs, or NAT devices between your computers are configured to allow MTP/IP traffic. Each MTP/IP application runs on a specific UDP/IP port number. By default, these are in the range from 8080 to 8089. For example, lserve uses UDP/IP port 8082 by default. Each MTP/IP application can be configured to use alternative ports, so as to avoid conflicts. See the documentation for the MTP/IP application you are testing, or the Troubleshooting chapter of this manual for other firewall tips.
