Below are answers to some common questions about HyperGate.
Much more detailed information can be found in the documentation. Also feel free to contact us with your questions.
- What is HyperGate?
- HyperGate™ is software that increases the
speed and reliability
of web based document transfers.
- How is HyperGate better than plain HTTP?
- By using DEI's Multipurpose Transaction Protocol®
(MTP™/IP) to transport HTTP data, HyperGate allows standard
web browsers and servers to transfer documents up to four or more times faster and with ten
times greater reliability.
- How much does it cost?
- Pricing for HyperGate varies by region and capacity, but is generally in the range of US$6,000 to US$20,000 per server host. See our purchasing page for additional information. You can also download a fully functional 21 day trial for free.
- What do I get?
- The HyperGate package includes both client and server software for all supported
platforms. In addition to the software itself, HyperGate comes with one year of
renewable technical support.
- How is it installed?
- The server software is installed on or near your current web server, while
the client software is installed on or near your web clients. See our Deployment page for an illustration. Documents
to be transferred are then designated with HyperGate URLs. Download the HyperGate
HyperGate Installation Manual for details.
- What is MTP/IP?
- The Multipurpose Transaction Protocol® is a
transport protocol that
improves network performance by making more efficient use of network
resources. For the answers to many other questions about MTP/IP, visit our
MTP page. You may also wish to consider our ExpeDat
file transfer software, designed as a drop-in replacement for FTP file
servers and clients.
- What security options does HyperGate have?
- Data transported by HyperGate can be protected while in transit using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL). If you are currently transporting documents using "https" URLs, HyperGate will work with your existing SSL server. If you are not currently
using SSL, HyperGate allows you to use AES encryption to secure your data without the need
to buy SSL certificates. This can even be done with hosts using dynamic IP addresses,
allowing secure peer-to-peer data exchange.
- Do I need to install plugins or scripts?
- No. You do not need to make any modifications or configuration changes
to your existing web browsers or servers. You only need to install the
HyperGate software and assign HyperGate URLs to the documents you wish to
transport with HyperGate. Download the
HyperGate Installation Manual for details.
- What browsers and servers does it work with?
- Any HTTP/1.1 compatible browser and server will work with Hypergate. That
means pretty much any browser or server made in the last seven or so years.
- Can I see a demonstration?
- Yes. Follow the steps on our Demonstration
page to download a trial client and test it against our remote servers.
- Can I try it on my own network?
- Yes. You can download the complete HyperGate package for
a free trial.
- What platforms does HyperGate support?
- HyperGate software can run on clients and servers running the following systems:
- Windows (Windows 2000 or later)
- MacOS X (10.4 or later, PowerPC or Intel)
- Linux (x86 FC3 or later)
- FreeBSD (x86 Release 4.x or later)
- NetBSD (x86 Release 2.0 or later)
- Solaris (Sparc version 5.8 or later)
In addition, the HyperGate server can work with any web server platform
by installing HyperGate on one of the above systems running on the same LAN as
the existing web server.
