Quick Start
HyperGate is designed for fast installation, with minimal setup time. This chapter explains the fastest steps to getting HyperGate up and running. If you purchased a HyperGate license, have your license code ready the first time you run each application. Later chapters describe how to configure HyperGate’s many advanced features, including full installations and use as a proxy server.
IMPORTANT: To transfer files between two computers, they must be connected by a working IP network path. If there are firewalls, VPNs, or NAT devices between the computers, then these devices must be set to allow UDP/IP ports 8083 and 8088 (or whatever ports you configure) to pass through.
1. Extract HyperGate
HyperGate is distributed in packages for each supported platform. For each workstation and server where you wish to use HyperGate, download or copy the appropriate package file and extract its contents. You will then have a folder named "HyperGate" containing the client and server applications, installers, and documentation. Open the Programs folder, where you will find the hgserver and hgclient applications.
2. Run the Server
On the web server run the program hgserver. It will immediately make any web sites on HTTP port 80 available to HyperGate clients.
3. Run the Client
On each workstation, run the program hgclient. It will immediately make any HyperGate servers available to all web browsers running on that workstation.
4. Publish a HyperGate URL
Select a link to an existing HTTP document on the server and modify its URL as follows:
http://server/document-path
becomes
http://127.0.0.1:8088/server;document-path
where server is the DNS name or IP address of the web server and document-path is the URI used to access the document. Rewriting consists of adding “127.0.0.1:8088/” before the server name, and replacing the slash “/” after the server name with a semi-colon “;”.
5. Click to Download
Load the page containing the modified link in the workstation’s web browser. Click on the link to initiate a download using HyperGate.
If you are not able to install hgserver on a web server at this time, you can still test the client by using DEI's Live Demonstration Sites.
