Overview
HyperGate™ is a software package which greatly improves the speed and reliability of document transport for web clients and servers. It is intended for use in enterprise environments which have existing HTTP based document distribution systems. HyperGate provides the levels of performance and reliability normally associated with private leased data lines over much less expensive Internet or VPN connections.
HyperGate consists of two components: HGclient runs on or near the workstations where users will be browsing the web, while HGserver is installed on or near the web server. These applications translate standard web traffic into high-performance MTP™/IP transactions, allowing the data to move more quickly across network backbones.
Depending on your configuration, you may designate individual documents, or entire servers, as using HyperGate. Because HGclient listens for standard web connections from workstations and HGserver sends standard web connections to the web server, HyperGate is able to work transparently with existing HTTP infrastructure while providing MTP/IP performance benefits.

HyperGate™ translates standard HTTP into more efficient MTP/IP.
As with all network software, you must ensure that any firewalls between your computers are configured to allow HyperGate's traffic. By default, this means explicitly allowing UDP/IP ports 8083 and 8088 to pass through. See the Networks & Firewalls section of the Setup chapter for other firewall tips. The next chapter, Quick Start, contains instructions for zero-configuration setup and use.
